FAMILY WELCOMING FAMILY

Kedungjati hall…
Rumah Kooperasi Cafe…

The numbers are increasing… coming to be part of a joyous family reunion in one of our Subud homes.

I believe that the fact that a significant portion of this World Congress will take place in Rungan Sari, which is home for many Subud members and the springboard for dozens of projects, makes the mood very special. Family welcoming family, so to speak.

As I mentioned below, cafés are being set up: the Rumah Kooperasi Café (left) is connected to the lively Cooperative set up by a number of members here. It is rumoured that it will be serving croissants supplied by the very successful Levant bakery enterprise in Jakarta… well, they will be baked here, not shipped over, but the magic recipe has been supplied! The Rungan Sari latihan hall has been enjoying a major make-over and will host a lot of Wings events. There are a number of small rooms around the outside of the building itself, and the former committee office is being turned into a café as well. The Kedungjati hall are on the wooden bridge through the woods is already open as a café from 8am to 10pm every day, serving Thai and western food, hot and cold drinks, and icecreams!

Everyone is excited about preparing the whole complex to be as welcoming as possible.

In the meantime, the Backyard Borneo exhibition is promising to be a delight, presenting visitors with the wildlife found within Rungan Sari’s nature areas and beyond… (no there are no actual orangutans in Rungan Sari – but not far away). The display borders the walk up towards the Muhammad Subuh Centre, through forested areas and gardens. The pictures have been taken by local residents: Rahmadi Hardenang, Bachrun Bustillo, Laksono Pribudiman, Rory Moon and Bjorn Vaughn (up in the tree with the orangutan).

And, of course, behind the scenes is the mammoth task being carried out by the WSA Executive office and the WCOT members. At a recent meeting, we learnt that the team is made up of around 100 people, 50% of whom are Indonesian youth. Today they were already at the airport welcoming members and guiding to their different hotels and accommodation.

July 17th and 18th will be the biggies, however…
